Our Responsibility as Global Citizens

Patronage Committee

Mr. and Mrs. Adamkus

Mr. Valdas Adamkus, former President of the Republic of Lithuania, and Mrs. Alma Adamkus, the founder of Alma Adamkus Charity and Support fund, have kindly agreed to join the YES 2010 as Patrons of the event.

Mrs. A. Adamkus once said: “If it ever is possible, my aim is to help the children”. Throughout the years, Mr. and Mrs. Adamkus have left footprints in many hearts all over the world. In everything they do, they are radiating warmth and spreading positive emotions around them. Mr. and Mrs. Adamkus believe in people supporting one another and offering a helping hand in need. They are excited to see young people’s dreams come true and encourage us: “Do not get tired, do not stop!”

Mr. Wackernagel

Mathis Wackernagel, President of the Global Footprint Network and co-inventor of the Ecological Footprint as a measure to compare the biocapacity of our planet to humanity’s demand, has kindly agreed to join the YES 2010 as a Patron of the event.

“The 21st century will be shaped by increasing resource-constraints. Every city or nation that wishes to succeed needs to adapt to this new reality. Otherwise they put their future wellbeing and competitiveness at risk. Such adaptation includes a massive reduction in our resource demand. Thus, understanding our Footprint is not only relevant for scientists and politicians, but for every inhabitant of the 21st century. Initiatives like YES 2010 are essential vehicles to help young people build their future.”
