Educational Activities Coordinators

Design of the educational framework of the event and ensure quality education.

The Educational Activities Coordinators (Junior and Senior) are responsible for the design of the educational framework of the event, recruiting the Head of Tracks and Track Leaders and working with them so they can deliver high quality workshops at the event itself.

While both volunteers taking this role need to have significant training and mentoring experience, one of the volunteers will be able to assume a senior role, bearing the ultimate responsibility for the success of the Education Framework at the YES 2026.

In addition to the general volunteer requirements at the YES, you should

  • Have experience with preparing and implementing educational activities.

  • Have an active interest in youth participation models and forms of youth civic engagement.

  • Have basic knowledge in designing and implementing e-learning content or are willing to learn and work on this topic.

  • Feel comfortable conducting meetings, organizing small activities for volunteers and creating team spirit.

  • Have attended the YES before, preferably in a content-related role (e.g. as a Track Leader or Head of Track). You may be exempt from this requirement if you can demonstrate extensive experience in similar events. However, please note that our aim is to ensure that at least one of the two EDU Activities Coordinators has relevant YES experience.

  • Have a very advanced level of English.

  • Be available to attend the 1st prep meeting (Dates TBC).

Additional requirements for the Senior role:

  • Have leadership and mentorship experience, ideally in a content position.

  • Be able to coach other volunteers, identify their potential and weak points, suggest improvements, and assess educational outcomes.

  • Be able to manage group dynamics, resolve disagreements constructively, and take final decisions under pressure.

The volunteer taking on the Junior role will have the opportunity to learn, contribute, and develop their skills, with the possibility of stepping into the Senior role in future years, if they wish. Although the exact division of responsibilities will be agreed upon by both volunteers, certain tasks will remain under the primary responsibility of the Senior volunteer.

During the application phase, we kindly ask you to indicate your preference for either the Junior or Senior role. However, please note that based on the applications received, the Leadership Team reserves the right to make the final decision on role assignments.

About your role

Junior and Senior:

  • Take stock of feedback from previous YES educational activities’ structure to assess strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

  • Develop initial concepts of educational activities for students and for volunteers, and incorporate inputs from the team.

  • Work with the Head of Content in the development and implementation of the “Empower to Participate” training course, co-funded by the European Youth Foundation (EYF) of the Council of Europe (CoE). This includes also taking care of the e-learning course for the EDU team as well as follow up activities. More information on the training course can be found below.

  • Prepare a very detailed plan of activities, including time-slots, groups’ division, venue arrangements, etc.

  • Enter information into the database, both about the volunteers in charge of educational activities and about the educational activities themselves.

  • During the YES, lead daily meetings with Heads of Track and take part in Core Team meetings.

Senior, supported by Junior:

  • Ensure that educational activities for students meet the learning objectives of the YES and that the YES theme is well integrated in all of them.

  • Assess educational objectives and learning outcomes of the proposed activity and educational competences of the candidates.

  • Coordinate with the Project Coordinator for any grant requirement for all the phases of the YES and parallel training course (e-learning, practical phase at the YES, follow-up).

  • Make sure that Training Session Outlines (TSOs) are ready before the YES, and adjusted, if necessary, within one month after the YES.

Your tasks

“Empower to participate” Training Course co-funded by the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe

The Senior and Junior Educational Activities Coordinator of the YES 2026 will be the trainers - together with the Educational Activities Coordinators - of the parallel training course “Empower to Participate” co-funded by the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe and specifically designed for the EDU team (Heads of Track and Track Leader).

The training course aims to empower young people to overcome structural barriers in youth participation in democratic processes and become active and engaged citizens. The EDU team will be engaged in a learning process about tackling discrimination, promoting civic and democratic behaviour in young people and raising awareness on the importance of youth participation in society. The ultimate goal is to prepare new generations of young active citizens to live, prosper, and make their voices heard even in difficult times for our democracies. The EDU team, led by the Head of Content and the Educational Activities Coordinators, will have the opportunity to:

  • increase and strengthen the knowledge of young people - i.e. YES 2026 participants - on how to meaningfully engage in the democratic life of their communities by promoting civic and democratic behaviour and raising awareness on youth participation models.

  • share methods and tools for creating a tangible change in society, and to act as multipliers, while at the same time improving their own skills.

The topics addressed in this training course will be aligned with, and will help define and shape, the theme of YES 2026, which will be further refined during the first prep meeting taking place between October and November 2025.

The training course will be divided into three phases:

  • an e-learning course (January - May 2026) led by the Head of Content and the Educational Activities Coordinators, with the support of the Project Coordinator and the GO intern. Heads of Track might be involved in facilitating some parts of the e-learning course.

  • practical phase at the YES 2026 mainly through the track sessions and the Common Activity, as well as any other in-person training sessions for the EDU team.

  • Follow-up activities (July - October 2026): Heads of Track and Track Leaders will organise at least 1 non-formal education workshop, either in person or online, at the local level based on the Training Session Outlines (TSOs) from the YES 2026. These activities can be coordinated with YFU Member Organisations.

Please note that, in accordance with EYF requirements, the Head of Content and the Educational Activities Coordinators should ideally be from different countries. We therefore encourage you to apply in pairs with another volunteer of a different nationality. Additionally, the EYF requires that 75% of the training course participants be under the age of 30. While we strongly encourage all interested volunteers to apply, it is important that the Head of Content and the Educational Activities Coordinators take this requirement into account when selecting the Heads of Track and Track Leaders.
